The Virgin Islands Opens for Guests June 1st, 2020

As we all navigate on the path of least resistance into a world of new social guidelines due to COVID-19, we are here to be a source of information and hopefully help you understand our community better and we hope to get to know you as our guests and friends reading this blog.

As of the latest news from the governor, we are open for guests, as of June 1st, 2020. Our beaches are open and we anticipate our ferries will resume a regular schedule soon. As of now, they are operating on a limited schedule. Be sure to check your flight times against any new info about ferry services. We know there are a lot of you inquiring how St. John is doing and how our islands are coping and of course what will be open for business. The tone in our community is resilient, however, there are less resources and many people have lost their Jobs and income is limited. While visiting it is important to be mindful of your privilege in comparison to many others during this pandemic. While you may have the extra income to take this vacation, others will be just starting to work again. Please be patient, an attitude of gratitude can go a long way. If you have the means, extend a gratuity and tip the people who are helping you on each stretch of your journey. This kindness can make a huge difference in someone’s life. Many people have mixed feelings about opening up the territory and there is a fear that this will bring another wave of illness. While we have no way of knowing what will occur, we ask that you use your best judgement when traveling. If you are not well, please change your travel dates. Ask your fellow travelers to please make sure they are healthy. This protects all of us in the long run.

the governor has announced we have tested 1,112 tested and 1006 negative, 40 pending and 55 recovered. We have had 4 fatalities due to the virus and we have 2 people hospitalized in St. Croix. We are mandated to wear masks and maintain social distancing. We do hope that if you are planning on visiting after June 1st, if you are at risk to please reconsider to keep our community safe. We welcome you as a safe visitor and appreciate you following the guidelines also when traveling here. Please consider staying safe also when in our grocery stores and on the beach. No large gatherings or groups over 10 in public places. Also, please be kind and considerate to our essential workers while you travel and maintain good hygiene and courtesy.

As far as businesses opening, our retail shops are starting to open following guidelines issued by the governor. There are dive shops and charter boats available and their businesses are open.

We anticipate that by June 1st, many more will be open. In restaurants, there are no sit down options available, though this may change after june 1st. Here is the list available for Take Out, we will update this as we get new info.
